MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS

Mooting activity in the National Law Schools has emerged as an integral component of legal learning in recent. It involve identifying legal issues in a given fact scenario, advancing legal arguments after extensive research followed by drafting a written submission and finally representing these arguments in front of eminent judges. Mooting, in short, is the closest a student is to being a lawyer while still in law school. Mooting helps students grow more comfortable and confident while arguing in front of a judge and honing the essential skills for being an advocate.

The Moot Court Committee (MCC) is managed by the University’s students under the guidance of a faculty advisor entrusted with the responsibility of administering all mooting related activities at TNNLS. This involves planning and organising the Intra-University Moot Court Competition (IUMCC) and Intra-University Alternate Dispute Resolution Tournament; organising and hosting the TNNLS National Moot Court Competition, and conducting various workshops, training sessions to help the students at TNNLS polish their mooting skills

The Intra-University Moot Court Competition (IUMCC), a process in which students who will be representing the University at various national and international moot court competitions are selected. The IUMCC is organised in such a way so as to stimulate the feeling of a national moot court competition. The MCC also conducts the Intra-University Alternate Dispute Resolution Tournament which includes competitions such as mediation, negotiation and client counselling.

The MCC also organises the TNNLS National Moot Court Competition. The MCC is to organise the 1st TNNLS National Moot Court Competition on 24th-26th March, 2017 on the topic of surrogacy.

The MCC, since its inception, has organised various workshops, training sessions and demonstrations to help the first years understand the art of mooting. The MCC also organises workshops for Alternate Dispute Resolutions (ADR) to teach the students the basics of ADR and the process. The MCC arranges for interactive sessions with experienced mooters and litigators from previous batches to guide the present mooters better.
