Intake & Reservation

The number of students to be admitted to the five year B.A.,LL.B (Hons) degree course at the Tamil Nadu National Law School shall be 100 for the academic year 2013-2014. The reservation of seats shall be as follows:

Resident Student of Tamil Nadu*

The rules of reservation prescribed by the Central Government for admission to educational institutions shall be followed for admission in respect of 52 seats earmarked for All India basis.

The reservation of seats for resident students of Tamil Nadu Shall be as follows:

Open Competition 31.00%
Backward Class 26.50%
Backward Class (Muslim) 03.50%
Most Backward Class & Denotified Communities 20.00%
Scheduled Caste (Others) 15.00%
Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars) 03.00%
Scheduled Tribes 01.00%

Reservation under Special Category:

The format of certificates to be submitted by the candidates claiming reservation under special category and the list of communities should be downloaded from the University Website :

Note 1 : The Candidates seeking admission against ST/SC(O)/SC(A)/MBC & DNC/BC(O)/BC(M) quota should obtain the certificates of social status issued by the competent authority in the prescribed Permanent Community Card in Tamil Nadu and enclose an attested photo copy of the same along with the application. Community certificate obtained from other States will not be considered for communal reservation.

Note 2: “Resident student of Tamil Nadu” means,-

(i) a student who or either of whose parents has resided in the State for a period of not less than four years preceding the qualifying examination; or

(ii) a student who has studied in any one of the educational institutions in the State for a period of not less than four years leading to the qualifying examination
