|TAMIL NADU NATIONAL LAW SCHOOLREGULATIONS FOR THE AWARD OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D.) in LAW|
1. Eligibility for Admission to the Ph.D. Programme
i. 55% marks in the qualifying examination, or An equivalent grade in the grading system.Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe shall be entitled to get relaxation of 5% of marks or a relaxation of corresponding grade in the CGPA.
ii. Candidates seeking registration shall have passed the TNNLS Admission Test and ranked as per the norms laid down in this Regulation.
iii. Candidates who possess national/state research fellowship with committed financial assistance at the time of seeking admission, in any of the national/state level eligibility tests conducted by the agencies so recognized by the TNNLS for the purpose, or passed UGC Lectureship Examination, are exempted from provision (ii) above.
2. Duration of the Programme:
Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years.
3. Availability of Seats and Reservation Policy:
The number of seats available for admission in each year shall be determined by the University from time to time in accordance with this Regulation.Reservation of seats for admission to Ph.D. programme shall be governed by the rules, if any, specially made for Ph.D. admissions by the Government of Tamilnadu.
4. Course Work:
Credit Requirements, number, duration, syllabus, minimum standards for completion, etc.Every candidate admitted to Ph.D shall do a course work for 16 credits comprising of the following components.
a. A Research Methodology Course comprising of 4 credits.
b. One course on the broader subject area of the research topic as determined by the Doctoral Committee carrying 4 credits
c. One course covering the research topic carrying 4 credits
d. A comprehensive literature survey evidenced by written submission documenting the areas and materials covered carrying 4 credits
e. A viva voce examination after the course work examination and evaluation conducted by the Doctoral Committee constituted for this purpose carrying 100 marks.
5. Fee Structure:
The fees structure applicable to the research scholars shall be determined by the University from time to time. Provided that the full time Teacher/Research Officer working in TNNLS who is registered as Ph.D. candidate may be exempted from payment of user charges and refundable deposits, if any.
6. Publication of the Thesis
A research student who has been awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy shall be free to publish his/her thesis. The thesis shall be published only after incorporating the modifications suggested by the Board of Examiners and a proper acknowledgement to the TNNLS shall be made in the publication. Further, the University reserves its right to publish the evaluated thesis in ‘Shodhganga’ as required by UGC.
